A great deal of the U.S. resides in coastal areas. Just look at any map of the country and look at how many states border the shoreline. It is a fundamental truth that Americans love seafood and they have a close association with the water. This weekend there are many wonderful seafood festivals taking place. If you like oysters, clams, crabs and other types of crustaceans, you are in luck. This weekend offers up some of the very best in seafood events with delicious regional favorites. Special Mention: This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of 9-11 attack on the U.S. There are 1000’s of events taking place to mark this solemn occasion. I am sure there is one event taking place near you. The town where I live is dedicating a park built to honor those who died that will include a piece of steel from Ground Zero. Make it a point to try and attend one of these events to help keep our nations pledge to “Never Forget”.
Maryland Seafood Festival Annapolis, MD 9/10-9/11
Since 1966, Authentic variety of Maryland seafood dishes, ongoing live entertainment, regional fine arts and crafts exhibitors, beach activities, kids games, Crab Soup Cook-off, benefits local civic organizations. Also “Save the Bay Day” celebration on Sunday.
Oyster Festival Asbury Park, NJ 9/10-9/11
Seafood and oyster festival with continuous live music on 2 stages. The food and music festival will entertain thousands with a mix of eclectic live music and great food. There will also be shucking demo’s, arts and crafts vendors and an oyster eating contest. Children’s rides and entertainment musical entertainment all day, beer and wine available with proper ID, oyster eating contest, huge variety of festival foods, over 100 gift and craft vendors and so much more.
Shrimp Feast Edenton, NC 9/10
Shrimp Feast is an all you can eat event to raise funds for the American Legion Post 40 Baseball program. Gates open at 5 PM and food, including shrimp (steamed and fried), fried fish, BBQ and trimmings and drink (including beer) are served until 7 PM.
Seafood Festival Hampton Beach, NH 9/9-9/11
Since 1990, Festivities Include: 50 of the Seacoast’s top restaurants serving an abundance of mouthwatering seafood delicacies; 80 Arts and Craft Vendors promoting locally made products; hundreds of Ocean Boulevard merchants offering end-of-season Sidewalk Sales; a Kiddie Land with the regions most notable Celebrities in Children’s Entertainment.
Wooden Canoe Rendezvous and Crab Festival 9/10
Show off your Antique Canoe! Enjoy boat building demonstrations, and antique canoe identifications during the day. In the evening, enjoy Bay food and beverages, music, dance, and much more. A beautifully restored canoe and a Vincenti Decoys Swan will be raffled off. Tickets required for the Crab Feast, Canoe raffle, and Swan raffle.
Norwalk Oyster Festival East Norwalk, CT 9/9-9/11
Since 1978, waterfront festival features national, regional and local entertainment, arts and crafts with over 225 juried crafters, tall ships, harbor cruises, oyster shucking and slurping contests, and an international food court. Plus entertainment and activities for children at Kid’s Cove.
Lobster Festival Chester, CT 9/10
Since 1970, features an evening full of music, dancing and lots of food.
Seafood Fest Menasha, WI 9/9-9/10
Enjoy great signature Seafood Dinners including Lobster, Crab Legs and Salmon filet dinners. Dinners are complete with new red potatoes, corn on the cob, cole slaw, coffee or lemonade and a sherbet dessert. New Orleans Seafood Festival New Orleans, LA 9/9-9/11
