Independent Fun for Young to Experience and Old to Share

This is the week of the year that finds something going on everywhere. Our events swell to record numbers. There are so many different locations hosting events that it is impossible for us to list them all. You can attend a different event almost every day this week in your area and still not see them all.

Normally this is where I would explain what takes place at the events I have chosen for the blog and also mention some unique feature about each one. This week however, the events follow the tried and true formula and they need no explanation or description. Traditional July 4th events involve at least one of these three elements; a parade, a concert or fireworks. And guess what? You are all invited again to join in the fun and best of all, in most cases for free. That makes this an especially good day for families and children. Many of the parades even have the kids taking part.

Ah, the memories of riding my bike in the July 4th Kids Parade. Really great streamers hanging from the handle bars and crepe paper carefully woven through the wheel spokes; that was original pimp my ride! If you were lucky, you could also manage the engineering feat of getting a baseball card to hit the spokes of your wheel in just the right place to make just the right noise, secured only with a clothes pin. It was magical and a miracle all at the same time!

I tried to share those sweet memories with my children. But whenever I wax nostalgic, I am politely reminded how much they fear the walks down memory lane. Not to worry because I saw to it that they made their own memories. Some day, my kids will try to share these with their children and it will be payback time, lol. I just can’t wait.

There are 1000’s upon 1000’s of small town festivals taking place. Endless chances to create a “memory lane” of experiences for you and your children to share that they might not mind so much as they get older. I encourage you to enjoy more than one fabulous event going on in your backyard this week. Don’t miss the chance to wish a “Happy Birthday” to America; a really great place to create memories!

Please Note: I have mentioned in my blogs and also it is posted on every event on our site, to please call ahead about event details before traveling too far. Things have a way of changing and it is a good practice to just verify things, even if you have tickets. Well, on Saturday I broke my own rule and did not call before driving over 7 hours round trip, to attend the AT &T National Golf Tournament in Bethesda MD. Guess what? They had a tremendous storm in the overnight hours Friday and over 40 trees had fallen on the course. It was catastrophic, dangerous and historic and the course was forced to be closed to spectators (please do not think it had anything to do with the fact that I was going to attend). The round did not begin until 6 hours after it’s scheduled start time and it was the first time in the history of the PGA that a golf tournament non practice round,  was played without spectators. Please heed my words when it comes to event travels. Because even though I knew better, I did not call ahead. I just hate it when I am right!
