Eclectic Events for Labor Day

Eclectic Labor Days Events

Ah, the Labor Day weekend celebrations. In many ways bittersweet, they are some of the best events of the year. This week I decided to showcase a selection of really big events under the theme “eclectic”. (no I am not referring to my home furnishing which I classify as eclectic because it is more polite then “early attic” ) These events are a group of many different types of events. And even though they do not have “Labor Day” in the title of the event,  I can assure you that they are much anticipated Labor Day events.  It is just that they do not depend on Labor Day to create their themes. These events could take place any other time of the year and stand on the merits of the event itself, not the holiday.

There are two huge Jazz festivals this week, one in Detroit and one in Chicago as well as two Grand Prix events; one in Baltimore and one in Rock Island. I also found some other great events in the air; the Colorado Springs Balloon Classic in CO and the Cleveland National Air Show in OH. There is one on the sea, the Festival of Sail in San Diego and a few other events on land, Artsplash in IA, Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Festival in IN and Septemeberfest in IL.

Lots of food events! I know, you think I must be doing this because I love food (which I have never denied and often celebrate) however it is because there really are great food events this weekend. How about I prove that it isn’t just because I like food but that it is really because of the fabulous food events? Well there is Taste of Colorado, the Marshall County Blueberry Festival, the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, the National Buffalo Wing Festival, there is the Sweet Corn Festival and also the National Sweet Corn Festival. (you know the line from that song… I’m as corny as Kansas in August. Obviously corn is big this time of year). All in all it is a spectacular array of events this week.

As always, if there is nothing on this list your area, please be sure to use the search box to find things going on in your own backyard. And do not forget to call ahead and check if there have been any cancelations as there are some weather related changes coming at the time of this writing. Based on my own recent weather related cancelation experience, I hope you will heed my advice even though I did not. Don’t forget to do the most important thing, grab someone you love and have fun!!
