Dinner, of Sorts, at Events This Week

Being the super observant person that I am, I found an interesting pattern emerging from the events this week. And just so you do not think it was my love of eating causing the pattern to emerge, I want to assure you that it was not. It seems, from the choices this week, one could make a casual dinner of sorts.  It might not be Cordon Bleu but a case can be made for it being good old American fare. You will need to use your imagination just a bit to play along but here goes.

First up we will start with a bowl of popcorn on every table to curb hunger while you wait. That takes us to the Marion Popcorn Festival in Marion, OH which features not only delicious popcorn but, a fabulous event as well. From there we move on to appetizers. I have chosen some fresh and yummy oysters from the Oyster Festivals in Asbury Park, NJ and Norwalk CT. If oysters are a little too much for you, how about some wonderful mushrooms any way you want them from the National Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, PA?

Next let’s move on to the entree.  I am getting hungry already. (no cracks from any of you). Well for the main course there is a choice of pork, from the Tipton County Pork Festival in Tipton, IN or sausage from the Saint Joseph Parish Sausage Festival in Vancouver WA. If you are into a lighter, healthier main course, you can always indulge at the Seafood Festival in Hampton Beach, NH or at the Seafood Festival and Power Boat Races in Pittsburg, CA.

How about a few sides? I bet you are thinking no way she has side dish events. Well guess what? I do.  There is the Lenexa Spinach Festival in Lenexa, KS, the Clinton County Corn Fest in Wilmington, OH and the Posen Potato Festival Posen, MI. (what did you think I wasn’t going to back it up?).

And now, my favorite course of all, dessert. Since I presented a good deal of high fat, high sodium and high cholesterol main and appetizer courses, let’s look at some healthy alternatives for dessert. Not that I personally wouldn’t find a hot fudge sundae an excellent dessert choice, I think this meal deserves something a little lighter. So, how about a refreshing fruit salad? There is the Niagara County Peach Festival in Lewistown, NY, the Melon Festival in Winston, OR, the Grape Day Festival in Escondido, CA and the Watermelon Festival in Pardeeville, WI. Any and all of these events would be a terrific end to our yummy event “dinner” blog this week.

And when you are all finished, you can sweep up the mess with a broom from the Broom Corn Festival in Arcola, IL!!!!

If there are no “edible” events listed near you this week, use the search box above and find some delicious ways to spend some time eating at events in your backyard. Bon appétit! What am I saying? That’s too French. How about, “Come and Get it!”
