Rollin’ on the River

As I said before, this time of year we need to look at a somewhat limited selection of events. Other than those of us in a handful of southern states, the weather is forcing the rest of us indoors. And even though I am all for fireworks and barbeques, there seem to be some fire regulations about holding them indoors. Go figure. But not to worry even though indoor events are the bulk of the choices right now, they are still can be informative and fun. Almost all are geared toward making you dream of warmer weather and outdoor activities. That’s what makes them so popular and why they can boast a loyal following and huge attendance numbers. Warm weather lovers can dream!

Just to show you I know what I am talking about (as far as events are concerned, I’ll say no more) this week the dreamers are in heaven. We are taking a ride on the water; boat shows. Say what you will about indoor shows that make you think of warm weather activities, boat shows are at the top of the list. It is rare to see someone water skiing in Michigan in January; not unheard of mind you, but certainly rare. I mean just look at the silly people who every New Years Day brave frigid weather to jump into frigid water to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge. So if people will do that, people might just water ski in Michigan in January. Not me, mind you, but some other silly person(s).

So this week I recommend shows featuring boats. These shows are terrific fun and just like the RV’s we discussed a few weeks ago, if you haven’t seen the new boats lately, you haven’t seen boats. Technology has transformed the marine industry about as much as any. New GPS technology, lighter, sleeker materials used in manufacturing, Satellite Internet, onboard computer technology and the list goes on and on. Now I don’t pretend to know boating but I do know I am always amazed with what I see at boat shows these days. Try to get to one and experience the new things that the wonderful world of watercraft has to offer! As always, these events are to give you a little insight into what is going on around the U.S. this week. I hope that some of you will be able to attend one of these great shows. However, if you cannot get to them because of geographic challenges, please use the search box above to find boat shows near you.  Bon Voyage! (well it sounds better than don’t fall overboard).
