And as always, remember…There’s always time for a little glamour!!

Mercedes Benz Fashion week Swim Miami is back again and this year seems to be full of major festivities!

While I’ll be styling one celebrity, 2 advertising campaigns and 1 new model, I’ll be running to the shows to view as many possible. Seeing the new collections, new patterns, colors and silhoulettes of swim wear to be presented in retail stores in 2013 has my curiosity running at high speed!!  How  else would my love affair with fashion have lasted so long. Being a woman who loves change, the unexpected and finds so much humor in life, I’ve picked the perfect career.

So this week I’ll attend the shows and next week you’ll have my updates. From what people are wearing to my top favorite trends, I’ll give the rundown as best I can and hopefully make you feel that you were there as well…Until then….

Summer is in full swing and the question is………….

How do you stay on trend when is so hot you hardly even want to get dress?

We seem to be in the height of an 80’s “Flashback” complete with off the shoulder tops, neon bright colors and painted faces. The modern twists are refreshing, forcing us to remember a more  simpler time.

Here are 9 great ideas (That’s right…. 9!!) to keep you looking cute during these lazy, crazy days of summer.

1-It’s all about going Fruity this summer and keeping it fresh! Go for colors with fruity names give your nails a colorful pop. Keep your color palette warm with sunset colors like magenta lemon and tangerine. don’t forget about the pastels, such as mint green creamy orange or tiffany blue (MY FAV!!!)

2-You all know my favorite shoe is a platform shoe and this summer they’ve taken this shoe to a crazy new level so of course this is my favorite trend while I will be sporting 2 and 3 toned color platform sandals circa 1960’s, you might opt for a more subtle version. Try one or two colors in a sandal and a wedge to keep things more classic.

3-Whether is your shoes or your clothes Color-blocking is already a household name

4-The 80’s are back In a huge way and along with that comes neon colors. if you want to pull off this trend without going overboard you can add a neon belt or a cross over bag to a neutral toned outfit

5- Another popular and slightly sexy 80’s trend this summer is what I call Peek-a-boo bra. Have a little fun by adding a colorful bra under a sheer blouse or showing a little strap under an off the shoulder top (and if two many heads turn don’t blame me.)

6-Pony Tails take on a new look, from the twisted pony to the slicked back high and tight pony to a casual low pony. This is a great way to focus on skincare and show off your glowing summer complexion.

7-Colorful make –If colorful clothing is a but much, try adding pops to your eyes or lips.

8. Lace. Channel your inner French charm by mixing and matching boudoir inspired pieces with floral prints and denim for a feminine inspired look.

8. White in summer are synonymous with each other so it only seems right that an all white outfit is perfect. To keep it modern and fresh choose trendy staple pieces such as classic dresses, wide leg pants (another of my Favs!!) white jeans and try throwing in an unexpected colorful belt or colorful platform sandal to bring more excitement to your outfit, so have fun with it.

May all the fashion be renewed!

Ok, so 2012 is here with a vengeance so  OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW, AND I MEAN THE NEW YOU!!

The energy has really changed.
I swear I feel it and I’m pretty excited!
So what profound changes are you making? Is it a new job, a new weight, a new you?
I’m hoping all of the above.  I’m a firm believer and lover of change. Change represents to me, the space to be better, try new things, do it different, be prosperous, get out of the slump, learn and grow as a human being.
It isn’t something to be afraid of; it’s something to truly EMBRACE!

Recently I had the pleasure of working with a woman (lets call her Nicole) who ran a department at a huge company.
Let me start by telling you that this woman not only is an extremely hard worker but has people skills and sales skills like I’ve never seen before. Selling ice to Eskimos is an understatement and problem solving with grace is her middle name. Any company would be lucky to have her!
So what was the problem?
She felt a bit overlooked, undervalued and unappreciated
When I went to her work place to get an idea of what she was talking about I found it to be true.
The power was missing, but it wasn’t missing from those around her. No, they were just reacting to her own interpretation of herself and something had to change.

I saw the problem as very simple. I noticed that she dressed somewhat casual for her position. She didn’t take herself seriously according to her look.
The truth is she really needed to believe from the inside, that she was worthy.
Well, sometimes you need a little help and you have to fake it til you make it, so that’s where I stepped in.
As a fashion stylist I know that first impressions are the most important and it doesn’t stop with what comes out of your mouth or how much make up you have on, it includes what you’re wearing and how you’re wearing it.
As the saying goes…When you look good you feel good. And there’s a lot of truth to that.
You can argue all you want but deep inside you know that the cold hard facts are this:

When you put on that sexy red dress and stilettos, do your hair and make up, throw on that perfect scent and walk out that door with you comes a sense of self confidence and sexiness. You begin to act the part. You feel sassy and you act sassy!
If you go out with your hair in a pony tail, no make up, bland khaki shorts and an old t/s you feel just like that, Old and dull. You become introverted because you don’t really feel good about yourself. It’s a pretty subtle thing and can go unnoticed for years, that is til Lisa Styles come along and slap some sense into you!!

So that’s what I did.

Nicole dressed in a manner that said I’m not serious about my job.She wore clothes that were inappropriate for someone running a department and because she dressed as such those around her saw the same. She mismatched pieces, some of which were about 100 years old, handed down and so unlike her personality. It made her feel insecure and off a bit. She hadn’t a clue how to begin to dress the part.

Part 1
My task began with a straight and to the point consultation, having her narrow down what she’s comfortable wearing and my new suggestions for her. I explained the different looks and what they say about a person. A woman wearing a pant suit means business, is tough, strong and confident and unafraid. Wear the same idea with a skirt and now you are reminding everyone that you’re a woman. Each piece of clothing you wear says something to everyone you pass, whether you believe it or not.

Part 2
Closet restructuring: I went through her closet, getting rid of ALL things unnecessary and unwearable. This part is pretty painful, but extremely necessary. You know those items that really haven’t been touched in years. That dress you wore on a date with your husband 5 years ago. The top that’s too sexy for your age or looks like something your daughter should be wearing. That sort of stuff.

Part 3:
Shop and Experiment.
I took her out for 3 hours, to try on different styles and sizes to really see who she was.
Each piece you wear either matches your personality or not. It takes a lot of honestly and awareness to know what these things are.
We bought about 8 key pieces and several key accessories to start off.

Part 4
We went back to her place and put 2 weeks worth of outfits together.
The update was minimal yet impactful. The end result was Chanel meets J Crew. She was fresh, trendy, sophisticated, professional and styled. She had her own look and she felt empowered. Now I had to see if that feeling would overflow and create something new at work.

Part 5
Testing the waters
I asked her to call me each day with comments and reactions as well as how she felt easing into her new look. The first day was a bit scary for her since she was partly out of her comfort zone. I had made a few outfits that eased her slowly inter her new look to give her time to adjust but the  reactions were so positive that she went full steam ahead wearing her black polka dot  & lace  textured stockings, her layers of accessories, the whole shebang!!. The compliments kept coming and the head of the company saw her several times a week, each time having another positive remark about how she looked, things like “wow, I love that look, wear more of that!” it was truly amazing what happened. Her co workers had a different attitude toward her and most importantly, she began to respect herself. I should tell you that after 3 months she got a promotion and she continues to have me update her wardrobe.  She more confident then ever in her position and knows her worth within the company. Not to say that clothing equals self confidence, but it certainly jump starts the process and when you fake it you end up making it!!!

That small wardrobe change changed her and everyone around her.

For her, 2012 is a new Nicole!!

And remember to be glamorous everyday!

Thank you Dear Globes for putting on an award show this year where I was able to watch so many amazingly beautiful people, so much so that my eyes actually burned!! The Diamonds, The shine, the stilettos Oh My!! The Hair & makeup and the handsome men!

 Ok. First things first.
New Rule.
If you can’t dress yourself you can’t critique. So Miss Osbourne, off with the dress and blue hair and on to fashion school.
An opinion makes a fashion expert NOT.

And now

There were so many gorgeous dresses on the red carpet last night and to really see who won best dressed I had to get down to details.

I must start with the uber sexy Johnny Depp with his cool enigmatic attitude and tinted shades. He certainly pulled off edge and chic with great charm. Adding accessories of a pocket watch which he wears so well and a sheen emerald vest he rocked the red carpet.
Cudos Johnny!

Ok, I’ll say it. Sexy sexy and did I say Sexy Reese Witherspoon wow’d us with her Red Zac Posen Dress and her tussled hair seeming as if she just rolled out of bed with her hubby looking mysteriously sexy, super content and walking with the utmost confidence.
Marriage definitely has its advantages and agrees with Reese.

Angelina Jolie surprised us all by showing up in a white Satin Atelier Versace gown rather then the usual black . SO hard to pull off normally, Angelina was statuesque and stunning then topped it off with the perfect red lips. Having Brad Pitt as an accessory definitely added to her perfection. Cudos Angelina for the Best Dressed in my book!

Octavia Spencer really shined in her Tadashi Shoji lavender dress.
Perfectly fitted in all the right spots and teaching woman how to dress for their shape Octavia is divine in lavender.

Kate Beckinsale was absolutely impeccable in her nude beaded strapless Roberto Cavalli gown. With diamonds galore, flawless hair and make up, she makes for a Best Dressed #2.

Catastrophes and the painful truth……

 Dear Tina Fay,
Please hire a Fashion stylist because at this point people are expecting you to show up in a terrible dress on the red carpet. You made Oscar De La Renta look bad. This dress is for someone 4 inches taller then you with a lighter complexion and hair.
You’re beautiful, funny have a great figure and I’d love to see shock us all and finally show up in the perfect dress!!

Madonna is a musician and they tend to dress edgier then actresses however, what was she thinking!! This hideous dress was not only wrong for Madonna’s personality but the additional black glove just threw it out of the show all together. Shamefully, Madonna is a catastrophe.

How does adorable Michelle Williams make Jason wu look like a Kmart dress rather then the couture dress that it is. Wrong color (much to dark), wrong style for the petite Michelle, that’s how! Add the ribbon on her head made from something out of a Michaels Store and you get worst dressed #2.

Sarah Michelle Gellar wearing Monique Lhuillier said her 2 year old daughter picked out the dress and it looked like it. Better a stylist then your daughter dear Michelle.
The color and style of the dress was so much that you could spot her out of a running of the Bulls crowd. Gorgeous gown, wrong person. This dress is definitely not an Oscar Dress.
This is a dress that should be worn on Charlize Theron running barefoot on the beach for a perfume ad!!
Definitely Worst Dressed #1.  Congratulations!.

And there you have it ladies.
Always look closely at yourself before leaving for a night out. Those little details make a huge difference.

I am having a love affair with my curtains!

Let me explain…

First of all, I feel that Sleep is highly Under rated. Most people, who know me, know that I LOVE to sleep. I don’t like waking up to the phone ringing or any loud banging. Once I get into bed, I have no interest is getting out til I;m good and ready! Since I don’t work a regular  9-5 hours on my  job I have the luxury to sleep in when not on a photo shoot and believe me, I take full advantage.

I happen to live facing East with the sun rising right into my bedroom window. Since my entire apartment is one long balcony from bedroom to living room, I can’t escape the bright sunlight every morning. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sunlight. In fact, it’s so bright in my apartment that I never have to put the lights on. Saves on electricity and I’m doing my part in conserving energy.  My sleep however, was broken up and disrupted from about 7am till 10am. I’d wake up every half hour, all morning til I finally got out of bed. You can imagine how frustrating that was for me.

The curtains I have are white light linens. They’re flowy and very nice to look at.

The only problem is they don’t really block the morning light.

Recently I came across the Sound Asleep Curtains!

They’re actually a room darkening curtain as well as the official curtain of the National Sleep foundation. The first night I put them up was the best sleep I’ve had in a long time and I am forever changed! Not only did they block out every ounce of light but the sound as well so once I shut my eyes, they didn’t open again til 9:30 am and I was completely rested. I am thrilled with my new found sleep .

So if you have any sort of interrupted sleep and are searching for the curtain that has that Hotel black out curtain feel, I suggest that you run and grab these. They come in all colors and are pretty glamorous to look.

But be careful, because once you put them up and get that experience of a sound sleep, you too will be a sleep lover just like me!!

Consign away!

As a Fashion Stylist, I specialize in combining pieces from a variety of places to create an eclectic and stylish look for my clients. I normally start at department stores and unique boutiques, then to the outlet stores and, saving the best for last, end up at the consignment stores. There is where I normally find my most unique pieces, the ones that you can’t find anywhere yet finish off the look and at the lowest prices. Consignment Shopping has been a trend for years although it was the “Best Kept Secret” of those who shopped there.

Designers go for inspiration for their newest collections, Fashion Stylists go to search for that one of a kind diamond in the rough and Shoppers go to save money on Designer duds buying at 60-80% off retail costs.

I personally don’t discriminate. You never know, while rummaging through the consignment store racks, when that designer blazer turns out to be the best 15$ you’ve ever spent.

In a time when we are all pinching pennies yet still want to look put together and trendy, consignment shopping definitely serves the purpose.

To  find a consignment store near you or to shop online at consignment shops all across the country go to This site has made things very simple and  done all of the work for you.

If you’ve never gone before here are a few tips to help you begin your journey of recessionista shopping.

1-Go through your own closet and see what you might want to consign out and make a little extra cash.

2-The clothes change and update daily, so I would suggest that you make a list and know what you’re looking for before getting there. That will help you not to get overwhelmed and keep you focused on just the pieces you’re looking for.

3-Make sure you try on what you’re buying. The size might not be what it says because the previous owner might have had it altered.

4- Get on the wish list. Customers who log their requests on the store wish list get first dibs on the highest demanded pieces and these items rarely make it on the sales floor. So if you don’t see what you are looking for, ask to be added to the wish list!  And if your local consignment store doesn’t have what you are looking for, don’t forget to scope out the online store on where you’ll find the best items from consignment shops all across the country.

And remember

Be Glamorous every day!

OK, I’ll say it, since no one else is…..

The Primetime Emmys were SO BORING Sunday night. In a world where everything from Fashion to Food to Business is thinking “ outside the box”, the Emmy’s made me yawn. The fashion ran a close second! With the 20’s 40’s 60’s, 70’s and 80’ influences all over the runway and vintage options everywhere you’d think someone would get a clue. Where’s the gumptiom!?

No where to be found Sunday evening.

Except for the few celebrities who at least dared take a fashion chance, the dresses were Booorrrrrriiiiiiing!

How many ladies wore red or nude…? Too many.

From Sophia Vergada in a GORGEOUS Vera Wang number who almost hit it out of the ball park but absolutely ruined it by hanging chandeliers on her ears, to

Kate Winslet in Ellie Saab who wore it perfectly, I was still bored.

So let’s go over the Cudos and Catastrophes…..

Let’s begin with Gwyneth Paltrow who wore a black lace Emilio Pucci piece.

I’ve heard people saying how she took a chance however the chance didn’t make a Cudos. Unfortunately her figure looks square because of where the top ends and the skirt begins. With a square body , this is what Not to wear.  Had this dress been one piece it would have been flawless and her figure would have looked amazing.

Julianna Margulies wears a Giorgio Armani Privé dress and looks like a piece of pop art from the 60’s. The dress is way too long and her hair stylist forgot to style her hair!!

Christina Hendricks wears a Johanna Johnson Couture dress and thought that this was the best she ever looked? Hmmmmm. Truth is, it’s too much length, too much lace and the slit is in the wrong place. It is very unflattering and washes her out. Maybe next year.

Heidi Klum wears a Christian Siriano  dancing with the stars dress…need I say more?

oh KKKKKatie..what happened? Looks like she made a pit stop to the Emmy’s on her way to the movies. She threw her hair up and ran out the door.

And the CUDOS go to….

Julia Stiles who for me was the best dressed of the night wearing a Georges Hobeika gown

Perfectly styled  from head to toe.

My first runners up:

Kelly Osbourne in J. Mendel, Dianna Agron in  Roksanda Ilincic , Gretchen Mol in L’Wren Scott and  Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab. Unfortunately there was not much color but these dresses are all perfection, worn well, fit well and the designs are spectacular. So thanks Ladies for making my night!! CUDOS!!
